PSF grieves passing of Norbert Kuchera

Words cannot express how saddened and heartbroken we are to learn of the sudden loss of Norbert Kucera, Secretary General of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).

IWBF mourns this irreplaceable loss : “Norbert was not just a leader for IWBF; he was a mentor, a friend, and a dedicated advocate for the sport and its athletes. His impact on the wheelchair basketball community is immeasurable, and his loss will be deeply felt across the world.” IWBF mourns Passing of IWBF Secretary General Norbert Kucera Andrew Parsons, IPC President, said: “It is with profound sadness that we learn of Norbert’s passing and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time.

Norbert’s commitment to advancing and modernising IWBF and the sport of wheelchair basketball was immeasurable, his impact globally significant. He was a popular member of the Paralympic community and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.” IPC pays tribute following passing of IWBF Secretary General Norbert Kucera Ulf Mehrens, IWBF President said: “I extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Norbert’s family, friends, and loved ones. His legacy will live on through the generations of athletes, referees, and administrators who continue to benefit from his vision and leadership. For all that he has given to wheelchair basketball, IWBF will forever be grateful. Sports News PSF as a long-term partner of IWBF had the privilege of knowing Norbert personally, as a professional and very good and kind person. PSF was highly impressed by the tireless efforts and dedication of Norbert to wheelchair basketball. He was highly respected by all the wheelchair basketball community and the Paralympic movement.

In 2024 I (Olesya Zaglada) visited Paralympic games in Paris at the invitation of IWBF and had the privilege to enjoy Norbert’s hospitality. Norbert was extremely busy organizing the event and meeting honorable officials and stars of wheelchair basketball, but he took his precious time and helped me find a way to the venue and  went outside to welcome me.
