Annual review of the 2024 PluSport football tournaments

Review.

The last football tournament of the year took place on 26th October in Siggenthal. This final tournament offered football teams the opportunity to compete indoors on a smaller pitch during the cold season.

In 2024, PluSport Disabled Sports Switzerland organised a total of 9 football tournaments with an impressive participation of 45 teams and around 500 players. The tournaments took place at the grounds of various football clubs and communities and offered children, young people and adults alike a platform to showcase their skills. The age of the participants ranged from 10 to 18 years for children and young people and from 18 to over 50 years for adults, reflecting the diversity and emphasising the inclusive nature of the PluSport tournaments. One highlight was the first tournament organised in Yverdon at the end of June. Teams from German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland came together – a great opportunity to play together across the language border.

The PluSport football tournaments are an important step towards inclusion and equal opportunities in sport. They enable people with different physical and mental disabilities to experience the joy of football and be part of a community.

Outlook

The planning for the 2025 tournaments is underway, with around 10 tournaments to be held in all regions of Switzerland. We look forward to getting even more children, young people and adults interested in football and strengthening the community. Football for people with disabilities shows that sport knows no boundaries and that everyone should have the opportunity to live their passion.⚽😊

Our heartfelt thanks go to our project partners, sponsors and supporters, without whom we would not be able to organise these popular tournaments. We would also like to thank the referees, who dedicate their free time to PluSport and football, for their commitment. We are glad that we can count on all of you.

We are looking forward to the coming football year – a special one for Switzerland as host of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.
